HEARTBREAKER

If you find yourself walking through the pretty seaside town of Worthing, you might just stumble across Heartbreaker - the super bougie speakeasy, and brainchild of Ben Thompson; drummer of indie rock band, Two Door Cinema Club. Concealed behind its thick red velvet curtains is a moody but glamorous feast for the eyes, and an Accidentally Wes Anderson dream. A true collaboration between the Interior’s and Graphic’s teams at Run For The Hills, every inch of this project was designed; from the logo to the menus, the bespoke banquettes to the wallpaper, the signage to the artwork.

First things first. Who is Heartbreaker?

The concept for this project was based around the idea of “Bad Cupid”. A cheeky little cherub, who has fallen from grace, and now spends his days breaking hearts. If you think you can sip a cocktail with your loved one without getting struck, think again, because this little trickster will pop up wherever you look. We even breathed life into him with a little animation magic, so you’ll be sure to find him floating around on social media.

And it is not just you he is after. The logo has also fallen victim to him. See the little kinks in the H, A, R and B. His arrow has a good aim…

Bad cupid didn’t just stop there though. He also threw the letters around into a beautiful mess (perfect for printing on coasters), and on another occasion, kicked half the letters out to create an abbreviated version (which if you look closely, you will find burnt into the lemon peel of your G&T).

Caged in the back bar is an important music quote left by cupid; Love will tear us apart

Ever wondered when Cupid will strike? He likes a sitting duck. So if you find yourself sat on the velvet stools and banquettes that are playfully adorned with patterns of his arrows, then watch out. We recommend dancing on them as a safer option.

Ok. So we are a few drinks in now, and it’s time to take a trip to the ladies. But don’t think this is a purely functional diversion. This is an ESSENTIAL part of your evening. Following the discreetly lit neon down the stairs, you will find Bad Cupid’s portal - an infinity mirror, perfect for that insta moment. And on entering the bathroom itself, be sure to check your back, because opposite the mirror, in Cupid’s scrawl, is the message “You Look Hot”. But don’t be fooled girls. He’s not that into you…

If you’ve survived the night thus far, then now is your chance to sneak away. Give the heavy metal doors a big push, step lightly onto the mosaic tiled doorway, and skip away until the chunky brass sign under its antique glass lamp can no longer be seen. Will you return? We can bet you will…
